My Year of Streaming Fortnite: A Gamer’s Journey

Reflections

May 13th marked my one year anniversary of streaming Fortnite. In my first year, I’ve ranked to Fortnite’s highest ranked level, Unreal, for the past 7 consecutive seasons. It’s been a fun ride as an older gamer streaming a predominantly younger person’s game. So many memories, milestones, and friends made along the way. To summarize it all would take a book, not a blog post. This sparked the idea to create a timeline of my journey. I will include links to my detailed reflections when they’re available.

Timeline

December 2018
Bought an XBOX and began playing Fortnite with my sons. For the next 6 years, my kids periodically tell me that I’m entertaining and should be streaming. I didn’t know what they were talking about.

March 8th, 2024
My blog, PopsPlaysToo.com launched with an article about How my Fortnite Journey Began.

March 18th, 2024
I decided to try and rank to Unreal for the first time. I also planned to blog about my learnings along the way. Fortnite Experiences of a Rookie.

April 7th, 2024
Almost gave up on trying to rank up to Unreal. Sliding Backwards.

May 13th, 2024
Closing in on ranking to Unreal for my first time ever. Decided it was now or never, if I ever planned on becoming a Fortnite Streamer. 4% from Unreal – See if I make it tonight on Twitch. No one but family watched the stream but I did make it to Unreal that night. Unreal Achieved!

May 14th – May 31st, 2024
Non-family members discover me streaming. The beginning of building an audience begins with Gamer_BryBruh and MomWhoHasSpoken. Streaming Fortnite on Twitch.

Ranked to Unreal for my second time Ch5S3. This was my most memorable season so far. There are many reasons for this that I wrote about in Fond Memories – Fortnite Ch5S3.

September 4th, 2024
Ranked to Unreal for the 3rd time. Unreal – Real Fast.

November 2024
Ranked to Unreal for the 4th time and shared my technique in Fortnite Remix Strategy.

January 2025
Ranked to Unreal for the 5th time and played some ranked ZB. Unreal in Battle Royale & Fighting in ZB.

February 18th, 2025
The music begins! Pops’ theme song is born. Creating my Fortnite Camping Song.

April 2025
This was a remarkable growth month for me as a streamer. I become Double Unreal for the first time. This means that I reach Unreal in Battle Royale (for the 6th time) and Zero Builds (for the first time).

The fun with music continued. Twitch fans can redeem their Viewer Rewards Points to play my songs while I stream. New tunes I created are “The Floppers Song,” “The Magical Indestructible Dumpster,” “My Little Tree Song,” “The Whiffy Wharf Song,” and “Crouch Walking Again.” Magical Indestructible Dumpster.

April was also the month that I got my party chat working. This had been a huge problem for me. Until now, when I played with other players, viewers of my channel could only hear me and not my playing partners.

May 10th, 2025
Hosted a special stream to celebrate my first year of streaming. Had great fun with my viewers playing custom games and had some giveaways.

May 15th, 2025
Reached Unreal for my 7th consecutive time in Fortnite Battle Royale.

In closing, I’d like to express heartfelt gratitude to my viewers and the moderators that keep our community a fun, safe, non-toxic place! You’re the best!
