Shattered my Record
This Fortnite season brought a remarkable improvement to the speed that I ranked to Unreal. As you can see above, in Chapter 5 Season 2 it took a whopping 551 games to reach Unreal. Looking back at that now, I must have REALLY been determined!
Chapter 5 Season 3 showed a 15% improvement, but still it took 469 games to reach Unreal.
This current season, Chapter 5 Season 4, I smashed that record! It took only 239 games to reach Unreal! Woohoo!!!
A lot More Top Finishes
I’m placing higher and higher! The above chart shows that I am now finishing in the top 10% of the ranked games that I play, 56% of the time. This Fortnite season, I’m also finishing in the Top 25, 92% of the time.
Thought I Jinxed It
Last week I blogged about how “Quickly” I was ranking up this season. Immediately after publishing that article, I hit a slump. It took me 32 games to progress from 30% Champion to 40% Champion. Never again will I write about how well something is going while there’s still a lot of work to be done!
How Did I Hit Unreal so Quickly?
I attribute it to 3 main things:
- Less Major Mistakes – There were only 2 games that I can remember where I was eliminated on the drop (the very beginning of the game). Avoiding those large setbacks was an enormous help.
- Patience is Improving – It’s an essential element for every Fortnite Camper’s toolkit. Here’s a short video that I made where I got chopped out of a tree and still scratched out a top finish.
- Maneuvering off the Drop – I don’t fall in love with a predetermined landing spot. Once I see where the first storm forms, I try and maneuver to a good position where if possible, I don’t take any storm damage in the first storm. So why not position for a great landing spot instead of a good one? Well, I’m playing against top players. They know the ideal landing spot, so it is risky and can lead to early eliminations. I’ve learned that I’m better off with “good” than “great.”
Time for Fun
I’m thrilled to have hit Unreal so quickly. Now I can change my focus from ranking up to having fun, playing in more tournaments, and improving my aiming and building skills.
