Fortnite Battle Royale – Champion Rank Achieved
Just 10 days into the new season, I hit Champion rank in Fortnite Battle Royale. That’s a blistering fast pace! This season it has taken me 121 games to reach Champion. I’m not sure how many games it took last season but I do know it took me 469 games to reach Unreal.
Why so Fast?
I’m getting much better at avoiding early eliminations! So far this season, I’ve finished in the top 10 for 60% of the games played. What’s helped even more is that I’ve had a Top 25 finish in a whopping 98% of my played games. This means that I’m rarely having a big setback in my ranking journey.
Not a Fan of Fortnite Rank Protect
There is a well intended feature in Ranked Fortnite Battle Royale named “Rank Protect.” On the surface this seems like it would be a good feature. Ranked players are not supposed to take punishment for having poor performance in their first game of the day. This aims to give a break to players when they’re not yet warmed up. I like that.
Unfortunately, this feature has been having unintended consequences. The first game of the day turns out to be pretty much a waste of time. I say that because so far this season I’ve had at least two finishes where I ended in 10th and 8th place finish that were Rank Protected. Normally, I would have gained a couple percentage points for those finishes in my ranking. Because of Rank Protect, I gained 0% in my ranking progression. I don’t like that!
Fortnite should either fix Rank Protect so it’s not a waste of time or allow players to opt into removing it.
Onward to Unreal
I’m looking forward to continuing my push to Unreal and hopefully achieving that goal much earlier than in previous seasons. This will give me more time to play fun games with friends as well as enter more tournaments. I’ll keep you posted and thanks again for your interest!
