Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 1 Strategy for Hitting Unreal

I achieved the ranking of Unreal in Fortnite Battle Royale for the fifth consecutive time in Chapter 6 Season 1 (Ch6S1)! It took just 131 games. My main strategy this season was to choose a drop location where I wouldn’t have to move for a long period of time. The storm movement this season has been quite predictable making this strategy work really well. Often I reached the top 10 before having to move from my drop spot.

Trees in Ch6S1

I’m becoming quite the Fortnite Dendrologist! Okay. I’m not going to pretend that I knew what that word was. A Dendrologist is one who studies trees. Tree camping has played a major role in my camping strategy. Fortunately, there are a lot of trees on the Fortnite Ch6S1 map! Green trees. Purple trees. Snow-covered trees. Short trees. Tall trees. Especially a lot of tall trees. The type of trees that getting out of would deliver the type of fall damage which would end one’s game quickly. Fortunately, Fortnite added a somersault type maneuver that players can execute that minimizes and often eliminates fall damage. This allowed me to land in much higher trees than I typically would escape safely from.

Last note on trees (for now). Unlike prior seasons, this season’s trees are not as easy to be completely concealed in. Players more or less have to perch on top of them and are more exposed while in past seasons, campers would be more comfortably sheltered inside of the tree canopies.

My First Ranked Victory Royale

It’s hard to believe but in each of the four prior seasons that I ranked to Unreal, I never experienced a win. Statistically, I surely thought that with as many 2nd place finishes that I had, sometime when I was one of two players remaining, the other player would have fallen, been eliminated by the storm, or called to dinner! But no, hadn’t happened. Until this season! Here’s a short YouTube clip of my first ever ranked win.

Season Comparisons

Although the 131 games it took for me to reach Unreal this season was slightly more than it took last season, last season was a mini-season so I’m very happy with the speed. The graph below shows how long it took me to reach Unreal each season.

Fighting in Ranked Zero Build (ZB)

My success in reaching Unreal in Battle Royale got me me wondering how I would do if I used a hybrid fighting/camping strategy in Ranked Zero Build. I decided to test my skills by ranking up in ZB.

The first difference was my drop. Instead of dropping in an area where I wouldn’t have to move, I was aggressive on the drop and chose to land in areas where I knew there was loot and often would have to fight for it. Once that battle was over, and I won many of them, I’d take my loot and often have great weapons to fight with for the end of the game which is something I almost never have with the camping-only strategy.

Now comes the fun part. So far, I’ve had 3 wins! One of them came in Diamond 2 which is a very competitive level. Here’s a short YouTube video of one of those dubs that I titled, “Hey, I’m getting better!?!”

I did hit a wall though. Since hitting Elite, my fighting skills are not good enough to progress further using this strategy. Oh well. Guess that means I need to improve them. See you all out on the battlefield!
