It Begins
My Fortnite streaming journey on Twitch began a few weeks ago when I was 2 sessions away from hitting Unreal ranking in solo Battle Royale. My kids have been telling me for years that I should stream so I figured, if not now, when? I was hampered by a lousy internet connection, bad lighting, yet fumbled through the streaming my achievement of Unreal to an audience consisting of only my oldest son.
Much to Learn
There are so many aspects that go into creating a great stream. Technical, production, content, social interactions and marketing are all important factors. That’s a lot! I do have experience and interest in many of those areas so the challenge of producing a fun, high quality stream has really peaked my interest.
Building an Audience
Like the movie Field of Dreams, “Build it and they will come” is not a given. It seemed that no one would ever find me the first 4 times I streamed. And…no one did. Except as previously mentioned, my son. Which was much appreciated!
The 5th time I streamed, the first non-family member joined my channel! gamer_brybuh chatted with me and watched me for about an hour. A real gamer came by, followed and encouraged me. Imagine that? Super exciting! Please check him out.
The 6th stream. Audience was back to no one.
Then something special happened again the last time that I streamed on Twitch playing Fortnite Battle Royale. momwhohasspoken found me because I had a “familyfriendly” tag on my stream. She was very chatty, helpful, and extraordinarily kind. She’s built a solid following as a Fortnite streamer and gave me a lot of tips. She also reached out to some of her followers and told them about me and a handful of them joined, followed, and interacted with my stream. What a thrill! Please check her out as well.
What Comes Next?
A lot more learning! I’m looking forward to improving my streaming and playing skills as well as grinding my way back to Unreal ranking. It’s thrilling to be building a fun and supportive community of Fortnite fans one fan at a time! Here’s a link to my Fortnite Twitch Streaming Schedule.
