A Memorable Season

Fortnite Chapter5 Season3 is one that I will always cherish! In this blog post I’ll reflect on:

  • Sharing my Love of Fortnite and Streaming with my 91 year old Dad
  • Attempting to Make History with BushCampDad
  • Building the PopsPlaysToo Community
  • Ranking Back to Unreal

Sharing Fortnite with my Dad

My eyes well up every time I think about this, yet I can’t help but smile. About a month before I unexpectedly lost my 91 year old dad, I had the opportunity to share my love of Fortnite and streaming on Twitch with him. He really got a kick out of it! You can read about it in detail in my blog post “Rest in Peace Pops“.

Attempting History with BushCampDad

Imagine being a spanking brand new streamer with a handful of Followers on Twitch when the opportunity arises to play with a legendary streamer to try and qualify for Fortnite’s biggest event, the FNCS. That’s what happened to me. You can read about how that came to be and what that entire experience was like in my blog post “FNCS Quals with BushCampDad

Building the PopsPlaysToo Community

I got some lucky breaks that have been incredibly helpful towards building the PopsPlaysToo community.

The first was having MomWhoHasSpoken find me via my “family friendly” Twitch tag. “Mom” as she likes to be called, invited a few of her closest friends to my channel that day to check me out and subsequently I’ve enjoyed watching, playing with, and getting to know “Mom’s” community. Some of them have become the strongest supporters of the PopsPlaysToo community. Mom also has been very generous with advice ranging from tech to etiquette streaming issues.

About two weeks after meeting Mom, the whole FNCS BushCampDad opportunity happened. Like Mom, BushCampDad and his community have been extremely encouraging of, and some have joined the PopsPlaysToo community. Those are two strong pillars that have been immensely helpful in getting my stream off the ground.

Every channel needs fans and ambassadors. NyRican0720 is both. The thing that sticks in my mind is as I was preparing to play in the FNCS qualifier, I played an Elite+ Solo Tournament. It was 3 hours on a weekend and NyRican0720 was there the entire time watching and supporting me. Since then, he’s become one of my biggest supporters and I’m thrilled to say that he too recently achieved Twitch affiliate status!

If you don’t follow them already, please show some love to MomWhoHasSpoken, BushCampDad, and NyRican0720.

Lastly, every channel needs smart caring Moderators. Thank you to HandSandals and MomWhoHasSpoken for pitching in to make the PopsPlaysToo community a family-friendly fun place.

Ranking Back to Unreal

This is the second season that I’ve attempted ranking to Unreal, and the 2nd time that I made it. When I first hit Unreal this season, I was ranked 16,402. I put in a little effort and played a couple dozen more ranked games and got my ranking level position to be around 8,900. Currently, my Unreal rank is 9,781. Not bad considering there’s millions of players out there!

This season I achieved Unreal much faster than I did last season. The great thing about that is it gave me several weeks to play viewer games and interact with more of my supporters. That was a lot of fun!

Closing Thoughts on Fortnite Ch5S3

This season has been very fun and challenging! Overall, I loved the experiences Ch5S3 offered with the exception of my indoctrination into being stream-sniped.

It wouldn’t be right to wind up my reflections on Ch5S3 without mentioning the cars. At first I hated the proliferation of the decked-out cars. They were overpowering. They knocked down, ran over, and shot through my favorite camping spots. Then I came to love them for the great mobile camping spots that they truly were. Soon thereafter the cars were removed from ranked games. This emotional rollercoaster helped reinforce the importance of accepting and adapting.

With that in mind, I’m looking forward to the next Fortnite season and the challenges that the new season will bring. Looking forward to seeing you there!
