Camping in Fortnite has been an intense, sometimes nerve-wracking, rewarding experience for me. I’ve spent countless hours improving my art of hiding, surviving, and, occasionally, striking when the timing is just right. As a 64-year-old gamer, I’ve seen a lot in Fortnite, but camping has tested my patience and reflexes like nothing else. It’s my go-to strategy, and while it’s not the most popular approach, this stealth strategy of remaining undetected has enabled me to reach Fortnite’s ultimate achievement: Unreal rank.
Hiding in Plain Sight: My High-Stakes Game of Fortnite Hide-and-Seek
Camping in Fortnite is like a real-life game of hide-and-seek, but with high stakes and no guarantees. I frequently find myself nestled into obscure locations, or often wide out in the open watching the surroundings for any movement for tell-tale signs that I must rotate to my next spot. It’s not easy staying hidden when top-level players, with eyes sharp for any sign of movement, roam the map. But that’s where the thrill comes in—knowing that one small slip could mean the difference between survival and elimination. I’ve learned to be fast, careful, and, most of all, patient.
The Grind to Unreal: Staying Hidden Among the Best
Climbing Fortnite’s ranks while camping can be a slow journey, but one filled with moments of triumph. There were plenty of setbacks that I experienced ranking to Unreal in the past 3 consecutive seasons. Usually, once I reach Champion level, it brings me face-to-face with some of the best Fortnite players out there. These players are no strangers to spotting campers, which makes it an even tougher challenge. But that just motivated me more. Every time I managed to survive into the top ten—let alone the top five—I knew I was one step closer to my goal of Unreal. Finally reaching it always feels surreal.
Streaming My Fortnite Camping Journey on Twitch
In addition to playing, this past April I started streaming my camping adventures on Twitch. It’s been a new challenge—juggling the gameplay, managing the technical aspects, and interacting with viewers. But it’s incredibly rewarding. Sharing the ups and downs of my rank grind, learning from my viewers, the moments where I narrowly escape an encounter or, admittedly, fail to hide as well as I thought, has given me newfound excitement for Fortnite. Streaming has connected me to some great new friends and a community that appreciates this strategic, tactical approach. It’s great to see camping resonating with so many others.

Camping in Fortnite might not be the flashiest route, but for me, it’s the most fulfilling. Each match is a test in patience, strategy, and calculated risk taking. Reaching Unreal, streaming my experiences, and playing with others that share my passion has been a dream come true. Every match brings its own set of thrills and challenges.
